It is our goal to do whatever we can to help your child receive whatever he/she needs to function as well as possible in all settings.

What to Expect

1. Initial Contact and First Appointment

Please call 952-388-7088 to speak with Dr. Anderson about setting up your first appointment. You — the parent or guardian — will come in for a 60–90 minute interview during which we will discuss your goals for the evaluation, your main concerns, and your child’s history. Your child may come to this appointment if you feel he/she can contribute meaningfully to the conversation. Adolescents are encouraged to attend.

2. Testing Sessions

After the initial appointment, we will schedule testing appointments to accomplish the goals of the evaluation. This will usually involve two morning sessions of about three hours each, unless your child has completed other recent testing. However, testing varies with each child, so we may need more or less time.

We will be able to give you an estimate of the time required after your first visit, but we ask you to remain flexible. We allow breaks as needed during the testing process. Depending on your child, we may ask you to remain in the office waiting room for all testing, or we may suggest you remain nearby (e.g., local coffee shops or restaurants).

Our tests may involve answering questions, completing puzzles, working on a computer or iPad, or doing paper and pencil tests like your child might do at school. Some are timed but others are not. There are no brain scans or medical procedures. Generally we ask parents to wait outside the testing room, but this can be flexible depending on the child’s needs.

3. Feedback

When testing is complete, we will schedule a final session of 60-90 minutes to discuss the test results, our conclusions and recommendations. Younger children do not need to attend this final meeting. However, older children may benefit from their own, separate feedback session or from taking part in the same meeting with you.

4. Report

Within two weeks of our feedback session, we will send you a detailed report summarizing the evaluation. The report will summarize the reasons for the evaluation, your child’s relevant history, his or her performance on testing, our conclusions, and our recommendations. Test scores will be included in a table attached to the report.

5. After the Evaluation

Your report and feedback session will likely include some suggestions for appropriate services at school or through other providers. With your written consent, we are happy to speak on the phone with anyone providing follow-up care or services or send a copy of the report. Dr. Anderson will also attend school meetings or medical team meetings for the hourly service rate. It is our goal to do whatever we can to help your child receive whatever he/she needs to function as well as possible in all settings.

We also may recommend that your child return for follow-up evaluation in 6 months to a year, depending on the issues presented. We recognize that all children are growing and developing in ever changing environments, and strengths and weaknesses vary over time. You are welcome to contact Dr. Anderson at any time after an evaluation with questions or concerns.
