Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluation
Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology conducts comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations. If your child is struggling at school and/or home, and a straightforward educational or psychological assessment has not fully explained why he/she is struggling, a neuropsychological assessment may be able to help.
We will help you understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses across multiple areas of functioning (e.g., language processing, attention, memory, emotional and behavioral functioning, etc.) and make recommendations for how to improve your child’s overall functioning. Dr. Anderson has experience working with a variety of difficulties, including learning disabilities, ADHD, psychiatric issues, and medical diagnoses.
Follow-up Evaluation
Dr. Anderson understands that children change and develop over time. Therefore, we often recommend follow-up 6-12 months after the initial evaluation. This way we can determine what has been helpful and what still needs attention, and update our understanding of your developing child and his/her needs. Follow-up evaluations can often be completed in a single session.
Second Opinions
If your child has been assigned a diagnosis or you have been told to expect something of your child’s development and functioning, and you would like a second opinion, we are happy to provide that at Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology. We will request copies of previous testing to avoid practice effects (your child may perform better on a test they have seen before), but will also use new and different tests to offer a complete understanding of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)
The Minnesota Disability Law Center states that the goal of an IEE is “to give parents the opportunity to have an adequate evaluation conducted by someone outside the district if the parents do not agree with the district’s evaluation or simply want to have a second perspective on their child’s needs.” We are happy to conduct further evaluation of a child and work together with the school to determine the most appropriate services.
